Docaviv is Israel’s largest international documentary film festival, and a long-standing cultural institution that has positioned Israeli documentary filmmaking at the heart of the international conversation for decades.
The new brand identity we created was designed to refresh the festival’s visual presence while preserving its status as one of Israel’s most significant cultural events. At the same time, it seeks to broaden the festival’s audience and establish a stronger connection with a younger generation.
The visual system is built around a robust, long-term identity designed to support the scale and stature of the festival for years to come. At its core is a new logotype that serves as a constant anchor, providing a clear and distinctive identity. Within this consistent framework, a new key visual is introduced each year, derived from the festival’s annual theme. This allows every edition to develop its own unique visual expression while maintaining the continuity, recognition, and presence of the Docaviv brand.
The annual key image we created depicts a balloon carrying a stone.
The relationship between the balloon and the stone reflects the very essence of documentary cinema: a direct, deeply human, and unflinching gaze that is capable of holding pain, complexity, and hope all at once.
We took Docaviv’s iconic yellow as our starting point and expanded it into a richer, deeper, and more sophisticated color palette, giving the brand a contemporary cultural presence while preserving its distinctive visual equity.
The annual key image we created depicts a balloon carrying a stone.
The relationship between the balloon’s lightness and fragility and the stone’s weight and materiality distills the essence of documentary cinema: a direct, deeply human, and uncompromising gaze that is capable of carrying pain, complexity, and hope all at once.
The refreshed brand identity was designed to open Docaviv to a new generation of audiences while deepening its connection with the festival’s long-standing community.
The result is a contemporary, accessible, and layered identity that honors the festival’s legacy while giving it the flexibility to evolve, grow, and remain relevant for years to come.
