Bezalel’s move to the new campus at the beginning of the 2022-2023 academic school year marks Bezalel’s historic return to the centre of Jerusalem and the creation of an urban campus that includes Bezalel’s historic building, the new campus and the Bezalel dormitory. The new building was designed by the Japanese architectural office SANAA, one of the leading architectural offices in the world, in collaboration with the Israeli office HQ.
In honour of the initiation ceremony of the new campus, we created a graphic language based on the architectural elements that stand out in it, and on the airy and open nature of the building. The colourful language is negative; When the backgrounds are dark, the typography is bright, and the gradient graphic elements seem to alternately appear and sink into the dark background.
We have incorporated into the language the work of illustrator Alon Braier, who illustrated characters that represented Bezalel’s departments. Alon’s illustrations were printed in hundreds of copies and given to those invited to the ceremony, and also integrated in some of the graphic applications.
